Jason & Lucia: GTA 6's Dual Protagonists Explained
For the first time in a mainline GTA, you play two leads — Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Here's their backstory and how their Bonnie-and-Clyde dynamic shapes the game.
GTA 6 puts two playable leads at its centre: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Lucia is the first playable female protagonist in a mainline Grand Theft Auto, and the pair’s relationship is the spine of the whole game.
Jason Duval
Jason grew up around criminals, joined the US Army to try to straighten out, and ended up running jobs for a drug runner in the Florida Keys. He’s pragmatic and wants an easy life — but keeps getting pulled back into trouble.
Lucia Caminos
Lucia is from Liberty City and was taught to fight from a young age. Trailer 1 opens with her recently released from prison. She’s sharper-edged and more driven than Jason — the engine of the duo’s ambition.
A true Bonnie-and-Clyde story
Rather than three separate criminals like GTA V, GTA 6 is built around one couple on the run. Their bond isn’t just narrative dressing — Rockstar has confirmed shared resources and relationship mechanics that feed directly into gameplay.
Switching between them
You can switch between Jason and Lucia, and crucially that switching can now happen within active missions — letting a scene shift perspective and tactics on the fly. Money, hideouts and your current heat level are shared between the two.
