Confirmed Gameplay Features: What's New in GTA 6
In-mission character switching, a returning six-star wanted system, shared money and heat, plus new tactical tools. Here's what's officially changed under the hood.
Beyond the setting and cast, GTA 6 brings a wave of mechanical changes. Here’s what’s been shown or confirmed so far.
In-mission character switching
Switching between Jason and Lucia can now happen during active missions, not just in the open world — enabling dynamic perspective and tactical shifts as a scene unfolds.
Shared money, hideouts and heat
Cash, safehouses and your wanted heat are shared between the two leads — part of the relationship system that ties their progress together.
The six-star wanted system returns
The six-star wanted level is back, representing the heaviest police response. Law enforcement AI is more advanced too — with delayed response times, the option to surrender, and more realistic behaviour during shootouts.
New tactical tools
- Crawl prone and take cover more naturally
- Carry and loot bodies
- Use zip ties to restrain NPCs
- Take human shields
- A refined melee system, under-fire animations and the ability to switch weapon hands
